Layne Sherk
Head Coach
The Mount Joy Lions Swim Team is excited to announce Layne Sherk as our Head Coach!
Layne comes to MJLST with over a decade of hands-on experience coaching, instructing, and mentoring swimmers of all ages and skill levels.
Family: My husband Jake and I have 3 boys, Christian, Jackson, and Logan. We have one husky named Zoey, and are about to adopt another this month!
Swimming career: I started swimming at 5 years old for Willowood, joining EAC shortly after. I continued competing on both of those teams until I graduated high school. I joined the EAHS team as a freshman, swimming through my senior year. I also swam for Mount Joy from 2008-2010. I have also swam for masters teams intermittently.
Favorite Stroke: Freestyle
Other hobbies and activities: I enjoy reading, playing games with my family, and spending time outside as much as possible.
Favorite vacation spot: Ocean City, MD
Years coaching swimming: I have coached at Willowood, EAHS, and Lancaster Country Club for 6 years. I also taught swim lessons for 5 years at Willowood, and have continued to teach private lessons since then. I am eager to get back on the deck this season!
Favorite thing about coaching swimming: I love the relationships that are formed, especially when I get to be a part of their swimming careers from the beginning. Watching the kids meet their PR’s, and seeing the joy on their faces makes all of the practicing worth it for them and myself.
Advice for Mount Joy Lions swimmers: Continue to work on every aspect of your stroke, even when you think it’s perfect. There is always room to improve, and some of the best swimmers I’ve coached are the ones who continue to better themselves. Put into the sport what you want to get out of it, and the rest will follow.
